Quartet Kalos features a roster of artists whose lives have intertwined in unique ways - from tours abroad, to schooling, summer workshops, and Midwestern roots. The ensemble will present a program of self-composed works paired with folk music arrangements and commissioned works, offering joyful and reflective songs for their unique instrument combination: marimba, clarinet, cello, and voice. The concert will feature music by Maria Finkelmeier, Beau Kenyon, and arrangements of American and Swedish folk songs. Works include: Finkelmeier’s “Not My Home,” inspired by the individuals she and Shankar met during residencies at Rikers Island in New York City, “Solstice” featuring poetry by Kathleen Kraft, Beau Kenyon’s “I Will” with text inspired by Alessandro Scarlatti's "Se Florindo è fedele," and Shankar’s arrangement of “I’ll Fly Away” dedicated to her late father.
