The Boston Symphony Orchestra returns under the esteemed leadership of Music Director and Conductor Andris Nelsons. The program opens with Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso, an enduring concert piece originally orchestrated for a ballet. Cellist Gautier Capuçon—a virtuoso who has performed with the orchestra more than a dozen times, but never with it here in New York—joins in the New York premiere of a cello concerto by Thierry Escaich, one of today’s leading French composers. The program closes with one of Rachmaninoff’s most beloved works: his Second Symphony.
